Oral Presentation Critique

My oral presentation showed a good understanding of how meaning is created through various aspects such as editing style and cinematography. I analyzed how specific editing techniques added meaning to the scene. I explained the context of the extract and placed the scene. I briefly talked about the plot and how this extract fits into the movie. I commented briefly on how this movie fits into the genre of bio pics. This presentation talked about sociocultural context and connected that with how OCD is portrayed in the movie. This can be considered as socio-cultural context due to the growing number of children with OCD. I also discuss how the scene is essential to the movie as a whole. Analysis is thorough and is mostly coherent and concise.

  1. This presentation addresses the sociocultural context on aviation. He addresses the depiction of Howard Hughe's OCD reflected throughout the movie. He addresses the editing, on how the movie portrays a 2 strip technical color. This might have influenced the audience, by using editing techniques of 1935. He addresses a leitmotif of heroes associated with epic films. He addresses the placement of the scene, on how the movie portrays the 1930s. He also addresses how this film is the first successful film that depicts Howard Hughes.

  2. The presentation showed good references to the socioculture portrayed in the film and the characters relations to the culture as well as background information. Also shows how the main character is portrayed relating to the time period especially with addressing how OCD at the time hasn't been diagnosed, which influence what others thought of Howard Hughes. Does mention how certain elements in the scene bring out the character and shows the importance of specific shots. Also shows good uses of certain characteristics of the scene to relate to the setting and characters, which connects back to the socio culture. There is good scene analysis like with color and character emotions and mis en scene.
